I recently read This is Your Brain on Joy by Dr. Earl Henslin. I have to say I chose this book to read and blog a review on because I expected to not like it. I could tell in the first chapter I needed to read what Dr. Henslin had to say about joy and your brain. I learned so much about the human brain. Throughout the book God is not taken out of the picture; He is present. The Lord created us. He knows how we work. He knows what is right with us, and what is wrong with us. I believe He has also given us the ability and understanding to see this for ourselves through the information written in this book. Medical terms are clearly explained and made understandable without getting bogged down. The listed treatments are practical, and not just, “Here is the best drug for you!” Hope is offered, and understanding is given. Dr. Henslin has taken away the shame of having an abnormal mental condition, whether it is changing a perspective or more involved medical treatments (short term or long term). Personally, this book confirmed for me that I should take Omega-3 supplements. I’m a happier girl for it, and I am no longer craving fish.
